Pontoon officially re-opened!

On a sunny Saturday on 25 October 2025, as part of the formalities of the “Commodore’s at Home” annual event and luncheon in honour of the Little Ship Club’s naval Patron, HMAS Moreton Commander Rose Apikotoa RAN, our newly-repaired and refurbished Main Pontoon was officially re-opened!

Before the invited audience, Commander Rose spoke eloquently of the historic origins of our Club in the Royal Australian Navy Naval Reserve and the service of our “little ships” and their skippers in helping defend Moreton Bay – indeed, the Queensland coast and beyond! – during the Second World War, and the enduring legacy of that heritage today.

The various speeches were as heartfelt and short as the weather was kind, but the real surprise came with the invitation to our beloved HLM Pam Mobsby, widow of P/Cdre Arthur, to take the scissors for the cutting of the ceremonial ribbon between the pontoon posts at the foot of the gangway.
