Pig-n-Prawn Day Returns to the Little Ship Club

From 11am on Saturday, 14 June, the beloved Pig-n-Prawn Day will return to the Little Ship
Club in One Mile, Dunwich, raising funds to repair the Club’s damaged pontoon.
For just $10 per adult (kids enter free), guests can enjoy five thrilling pig races, fresh local
prawns, and live music by local favourites Incognito.
“The piggy races are something to look forward to — it’s such a unique form of
entertainment and something you don’t see every week,” said Club Director Greg Daley.
“It’s also a seafood day. We’ll have fresh local prawns for sale and plenty of entertainment.”
There will also be a sausage sizzle, a pig on the spit, and kids’ activities including face painting
and balloon animals.
This year’s event will also fundraise for the Pontoon Save-A-Thon, an initiative to restore the
Club’s waterfront pontoon.
“Each race, the pigs are auctioned off like a Calcutta auction. Whoever owns the winning pig
takes home half the prize money—the other half goes toward the pontoon repairs, a very deserving cause,” Mr Daley explained.
While the races are a major drawcard, Mr Daley was keen to assure attendees that the
animals are well cared for by Noah’s Thoroughbred Racing Pigs, a professional pig racing organisation.
“It’s such a fun event and everyone loves it—watching the little piggies run around in a
humane environment, of course,” he said.
“They have plenty of shade, they’re fed well, and Noah’s team has been doing this for years
all over Australia.”
As a seasoned pub owner and long-time pig race enthusiast, Mr Daley revealed his top pick:
“The last race I hosted; I was going to buy the gold pig in the final race of the day. We bid
$3,000 but missed out.
The total prize pool was $22,000—and guess which pig won? The gold pig we missed out on!”
This year’s event promises a fun-filled day on the waterfront: delicious seafood, live
entertainment, and community fundraising for a great cause.
