Support our Pontoon Repair Project

The Little Ship Club’s main pontoon is essential to our community, providing safe and convenient access for members and visitors alike. For 2025, one of our top strategic priorities is the repair and minor restoration of this vital asset.

The Scope of the Project

The repair project includes:

  • Installing four new Bellingham pontoons 3mx3m square (paid and ordered)
  • Using forty rods within the new pontoons (paid and received)
  • Enhancing stability with two additional 3m x .9m brackets (to go around two of existing poles) 
  • Using new timbers to hold the new pontoons together 
  • Replacing cleats

We also require additional timber and rods to repair some existing pontoons.

The estimated total cost of these repairs is approx:

$80,000 to $100,000.

Funding Update

We’re pleased to share that we already have $51,750 available, thanks to:

  • Generous member donations of $5,000, $5,000, $5,000 and $100
  • A $5,000 grant from the Redlands Foundation
  • A $2,000 donation from the LSC Champagne Cruisers
  • An insurance claim for pontoon damage
  • $8,000 in building levies expected this year

Discounts and Savings

Director Ken Allsop, who is managing this project, has secured significant savings by working with generous suppliers. To date, we’ve saved $17,239 thanks to contributions from:

“Pontoon Save-A-Thon” Campaign

To fully fund the project, we are launching the Pontoon Save-a-thon campaign to raise an additional $20,000. Here’s how you can help:

  • Tie-Up Donations: Members and non-members tying up on the main pontoon are encouraged to donate $20 per visit via the bar (only for 2025).  (Non-members staying overnight will pay the usual overnight fee).
  • General Donations: Additional contributions from patrons and supporters are warmly welcomed.
  • Online Donations: You can also donate via bank transfer (LSC Main Account, BSB: 124 017, ACC# 22848152).  Please provide your name so we can acknowledge your contribution).

We’ll update you with a running total of donations and share how the funds are allocated.  In stage 2 of the project, we want to extend the pontoon to enable more boats to tie up.

One additional way you can help

When the wind is northerly or northwest at 15-20 knots or above, we kindly request that all vessels depart the main pontoon to prevent further damage.
 
Bruce Phillips and Mark McCamley are also organising some minor short-term repairs to protect boats using the pontoon.
